Hi I am Charley, and I am a patient of Dr. Cates. I have been doing eye therapy since May of 2024. Dr. Cates does eye exercises with me and makes doing it fun. In May I wasn’t able to see the board at school from the back of the classroom or read books with small print. She also saved me from glasses. Not only are things more clear, I also finished the Harry Potter series. She has changed my life so much and given me my confidence back.

Charley O.

My ten year old daughter been with Dr. Cates for several months doing weekly vision therapy. The progress she has made is incredible. She went from needing glasses to reading without glasses. Her confidence in school and at home has increased dramatically. My daughter really enjoys going to therapy with her. The investment that we made in her therapy was well worth it and I highly recommend her practice. We are so grateful that we found her. It truly changed our daughter’s life and now she reads without hesitation.

Tambi O.

Both of my sons worked with Dr. Cates this past year and within our first month of therapy, I noticed a significant improvement with their handwriting legibility. Reading fluency improved and overall I think both kids felt more confident in their school work. One of my sons also found that he had stronger eye hand coordination in sports as well as better proprioception. Dr. Cates always worked with them in a kind, gentle and encouraging manner. She encouraged them in their journeys and they sure did love her prizes for hard work! We are so grateful for the experience we had with Dr. Cates and highly recommend her practice!

Vision therapy is like physical therapy for the visual system, working to improve the connection between the brain and eyes. Through a personalized program of progressive eye exercises, patients enhance visual skills such as eye coordination, tracking, and focusing, often alongside other treatments like glasses or surgery.

Vision therapy is effective for people of all ages and can address conditions like strabismus (eye turn), amblyopia (lazy eye), convergence insufficiency (eye teaming), and traumatic brain injuries. It enhances skills such as depth perception, visual processing, and hand-eye coordination, benefiting children struggling in school and adults recovering from visual impairments.

The process begins with a comprehensive vision evaluation by an experienced doctor to assess your specific needs. Based on the results, a personalized treatment plan addresses your unique vision challenges and goals.

If your child struggles with reading, learning, or sports performance, they may benefit from vision therapy. Signs include skipping lines when reading, poor comprehension, headaches, avoiding near tasks, or being diagnosed with ADHD or dyslexia. Therapy helps children overcome these issues, improving confidence and success.

Supervised by trained professionals, vision therapy involves weekly sessions (30-45 minutes) with activities designed to strengthen visual skills. These sessions include interactive exercises and specialized tools like lenses and prisms, reinforced by at-home activities to optimize results.

No, professional guidance is essential to perform exercises correctly and effectively. Vision therapists use specialized equipment and techniques not accessible at home, and improper practice can reinforce poor visual habits.

Once a program is completed, the benefits are long-lasting. Properly conditioned visual reflexes operate effortlessly, and maintenance exercises may be prescribed to reinforce progress. Therapy lays the foundation for a lifetime of improved visual skills.

Vision therapy focuses on the eye-brain connection, improving how the brain processes visual information from the eyes. Most binocular vision issues are linked to this connection, known as visual processing.

3D vision is crucial for tasks requiring depth perception, like catching a ball, driving, threading a needle, or stepping off a curb. Losing 3D vision can significantly affect daily life and reduce overall quality of life.

No, vision problems do not resolve with age. Without treatment, children may continue to struggle as adults, and issues can worsen or require more complex interventions later.
